A chaff cutter (also called a straw chopper or silage cutter) pulls crop residue through a rotating flywheel of blades and ejects it as uniform short pieces. Our 9ZF-400 class machines handle green and dry material alike — corn stalks, sorghum, wheat straw and fresh grass — with adjustable cutting length so you control the texture. Across the range, single-machine capacity runs from about 1 t/h on small farm units up to 10–12 t/h on trailer-mounted models, driven by an electric motor or a diesel engine.
For silage, cut to 1–2 cm so the pile packs tightly and ferments without air pockets; for dry feeding, 2–5 cm is easier to mix with concentrates. Uniform cutting means animals waste less and digest more, and the short pieces store and transport far better than whole stalks. Many farms pair the cutter with a pellet line to turn the same forage into shelf-stable pellets.
