Flat Die vs Ring Die Pellet Mill: Which One Should You Choose?
Update:2026-09-10 18:22:02    Views:
Both the flat plate pelletizer and the ring-shaped pelletizer squeeze the powdered raw materials through the mold holes by rotating rollers to form uniform particles. The only real difference lies in the shape of the mold and the way the rollers move relative to the mold. The flat plate pelletizer uses a horizontal plate with vertical holes, and its rollers press the material downward into the plate; while the ring-shaped pelletizer employs a hollow ring-shaped structure with radial holes, and its rollers are located inside the ring and push the material out of the ring wall. This single geometric difference determines all other factors: production capacity, mold lifespan, particle quality, and cost.

The flat plate pelletizer has a simple structure, low cost, and is easy to maintain, and it performs well in processing fibrous or high-humidity raw materials. However, due to the uneven pressure distribution from the center to the edge, the mold wears unevenly, and the hourly production is also lower. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for small farms, rabbit feed/cow feed/fish feed, and amateur wood chip particle production. In contrast, the ring-shaped pelletizer distributes the pressure evenly around the ring-shaped mold, thereby extending the mold's lifespan. It can produce several tons to several tens of tons of particles per hour, with lower unit ton energy consumption, but it requires higher initial investment and more professional maintenance costs - this is the standard choice for commercial feed mills and large biomass plants.

When choosing the appropriate equipment, first consider your budget and target production capacity: the flat plate pelletizer is a safe and economical entry-level choice for small-scale operations, while only the ring-shaped pelletizer can achieve hourly production of several tons to several tens of tons. Then, match it according to the materials and particle specifications - fibrous, sticky, or high-humidity raw materials are better suited for the flat plate, while dry materials, difficult-to-pelletize biomass raw materials, or high-value-added hard particles for export and fuel are better suited for the ring-shaped.
