Feed a log, branch or squared timber into the inlet, and the spinning blades shave off thin, curled flakes in one pass — no pre-crushing required. Blade angle and feed rate set the thickness of the shaving, and the finished flakes blow or fall out ready for bagging. The second photo shows the output: light, springy shavings with the curled edges that make them absorbent and comfortable underfoot — exactly what bedding buyers look for.
Four checks will save you money when choosing a shaving mill. First, raw material range: confirm the maximum log diameter and length the inlet accepts, and whether knotty or harder species are realistic for your blade setup. Second, shavings spec: good bedding shavings are thin, low in dust and free of large slivers — ask for a sample cut from your own timber before ordering. Third, power source: match the motor to your site's electricity supply, or spec a diesel engine version for mobile or off-grid operation. Fourth, wear parts: blades and the disc surface are consumables, so confirm replacement blade availability and whether blades can be re-sharpened locally rather than replaced.
