A chaff cutter's discharge port decides how the finished forage leaves the machine, and most models offer three of them: upper, middle and lower. Each one suits a different material and a different group of animals. Choosing the right port often makes the difference between feed that gets eaten and feed that gets wasted.
The lower outlet carries a screen and is generally used for grain and dry, short forage, the kind of feed given to pigs. Finished size is set by the hole size of the screen rather than by the cutter alone. Customers can order the screen that matches the particle size they need.
The upper outlet, also called the high spout, delivers slightly longer forage. Because the spout is high, it can discharge outdoors, straight into a pile or a cart. This is the outlet usually chosen for cattle and sheep feed.
The middle outlet sits higher than the lower one, and its product is broken up more finely than what the high spout delivers. With three ports on one machine, the choice comes down to how fine the finished material has to be.
Buyers comparing the 400-24 and the 400-24B should check three points. The working width of the machine is not the same, and the structure of the feed port differs. The material of the internal parts and of the rotary blade differs as well.
