Weiwei's electric chain saw kit takes a different route. The chain saw bracket clamps onto a 980 W angle grinder, and the grinder's output drives an 11.5-inch guide bar through a chain. The complete unit weighs about 2 kg, runs on 220 V mains power, and uses an ABS housing that stays cool enough to handle. Assembly is a handful of steps: fit the drive sprocket, the pressure plate, the aluminium chain mount and the bar, then set the tension and bolt on the U-shaped handle.
The details are what make it usable day after day. An automatic oil pump feeds the chain continuously once the reservoir is filled, so the chain runs cooler and lasts longer. Chain tension is adjustable with a screw, which matters as the chain stretches. A metal baffle over the top of the bar keeps chips and dust away from your hands, and the guide plate is forged and cold-rolled in one piece rather than stamped, so it resists bending. The chain itself is deep-quenched for hardness, which keeps it cutting straight through knots.
