Crumble solves the problem. The pellet mill first presses the mash into pellets, then the roller crusher breaks them into uniform 1.5 mm crumbles sized for chicks in their first two weeks. Because the nutrients were bound together during pelleting, the crumb keeps the formula uniform with no separation. It is easy to peck, more palatable, and far less dusty, so chicks eat more, convert feed better and the house stays cleaner.
For a farm, the pellet mill plus crusher combination is flexible: one line produces fine starter crumble (1.5 mm) for chicks now and, by simply widening the crusher gap, whole pellets for growers later.
