The machine handles this in one pass, dry. Kernels are loaded into the stainless hopper at the top and fall into the peeling chamber, where a rubber-and-abrasive roller works them against a curved, perforated screen. The rubbing action lifts the skin without crushing the kernel, and the perforated screen lets the loose skins fall through while the kernels travel on.
From the peeling chamber the mix drops onto a vibrating screen deck. The deck is inclined and perforated, and its vibration separates kernels from skin flakes and dust. A blower mounted on the frame draws air across the deck and carries the light skins out through the discharge chute, while the clean kernels leave at the lower end. Because the whole process is dry, the kernels do not pick up moisture, which is what keeps them crisp and gives them the shelf life a peanut butter plant or a confectionery line needs.
Moisture in the raw material decides how well any dry peeler works. Kernels that have been roasted or dried to a low moisture give a brittle skin that lifts cleanly; kernels straight from a humid store tear and smear. Most users therefore run the peeler after the roaster or the dryer, not before, and keep the crop at a steady size grade so the roller gap does not have to be reset for every sack.
Two units can also be run side by side on the same frame line, one peeling and one as a standby or a second grade, which is how most medium-size plants scale up without buying a different machine.
