Sawdust Machine with Cyclone: Turning Branch and Slab Waste into 1-2 t/h of Fines — Weiwei Machinery
Update:2026-11-06 11:29:17    Views:
Ask anyone running a biomass pellet line what stops production, and the answer is usually the raw material, not the pellet mill. Sawdust arrives from different sawmills with different moisture and a mix of shavings, chips and fine dust, and the mill has to be re-adjusted for every load. Buying it in also costs more each season. The alternative is to buy a sawdust machine and make your own from branch offcuts, pallet scrap, slab wood and slab edges that are otherwise burned or dumped.
The machine is a hammer mill with a cyclone bolted on top. Material drops through the top hopper into a chamber of swinging hammers that spin at high speed and break branches and blocks against the screen by impact rather than cutting, so the blades keep working even when a nail or a knot goes through. The screen under the rotor decides the output size - a 6 mm screen gives fine sawdust for pellets and mushroom substrate, a larger screen gives a coarser bedding material. The rotor is driven by the main motor through belts, and a separate fan motor draws air through the mill, carries the fines up the riser pipe and spins them inside the cone. The dust falls to the bottom outlet while the clean air leaves through the centre, which is why the discharge stays in one place and the working area stays breathable.
Three sizes cover most farms. The DMJ-420 runs a 11 kW motor and gives 300-600 kg/h at 280 kg, the smallest of the three. The DMJ-500-60 steps up to a 30 kW motor and 800-1500 kg/h. The DMJ-600-70 at 45 kW plus a 7.5 kW fan motor delivers 1000-2000 kg/h and stands 2300 by 1630 by 1500 mm at 700 kg, which is the model most often paired with a 1-2 t/h pellet line.
Sizing is mostly a question of matching the mill to what comes after it. A 420 will keep a small pellet press or a mushroom yard going with 300-600 kg/h. A 600-70 at 1-2 t/h is the usual choice in front of a 1-2 t/h pellet line, and it will also handle branch material up to the size of the hopper opening. Feed the machine dry - wood above about 15% moisture tends to clog the screen and cost you more in amperage than it returns in output - and keep the hammers turned or replaced in sets so the rotor stays balanced.
The fines have more than one buyer. Pellet plants press them into biomass fuel, mushroom growers mix them into substrate, charcoal briquette workshops carbonise them, and poultry and horse farms use the coarser grade as bedding. Because the same machine covers all of those with a screen change, one unit can serve several product lines.
Zhengzhou Weiwei Machinery has manufactured feed and biomass equipment since 1980, holds CE and ISO9001 certificates and ships under the WEIWEI and Xingyida brands. Tell us the material you have, its moisture and the output you need per hour, and we will confirm the model, screen size and motor for your voltage.
